Hugh M. Robert

Hugh M. Robert, AssociateHugh M. Robert graduated from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 2008. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Tulsa (BA '94). He focuses on complex litigation cases including business transactions and tort, nursing home/medical negligence, real estate transactions, and products liability. He also represents and works with over 50 non-profit foundations and organizations advising them on state and federal compliance issues, policy and procedure best practices, intellectual property and licensing, and board governance issues.

While at the University of Tulsa College of Law, he served as Articles Editor for the peer-reviewed Energy Law Journal. He was a member of the Phi Delta Phi honors fraternity. He was on the Dean's honor roll and held several offices in the Law & Medicine Society. He received a number of awards including the Outstanding Service Award from the Law & Medicine Society, Phi Delta Phi Professional Responsibility Award, and Cali Awards (highest grade) in Mental Health Disability Law, Civil Procedure, Pre-Trial Practice, and Professional Responsibility.  He also received the Martin H. Belsky Award in Public Interest Law for his demonstrated commitment in the areas of public service, diversity, religious respect and promotion of constitutional values in 2008.

He has published Lessons of Prudhoe Bay: An Examination of Low-Stress Pipelines Regulations in the American Bar Association Energy Committee Newsletter (Vol. 5, No. 3, p. 10-13, June 2008).  He has also published “Hot Coffee, A Review of the Hot Documentary of the Summer” in the Advocate (the Journal of the Oklahoma Association for Justice), vol. 42, no. 3, Fall 2011, “Ballot Initiative” in the Advocate, vol. 41, no. 3, Fall 2010, "A Thumbnail of Prospective v. Retroactive Application" in the Advocate, vol. 41, no.1, Spring 2010, and “Election 2010: How and Why to Be Involved?” in the Advocate, vol. 40, no. 1, Winter 2009.  He presented his paper on “Involuntary Representation” to the American Association for Justice Nursing Home Litigation Group (Sept. 2010); presented to the Oklahoma Bar Association Nursing Home Litigation CLE on “proving Common Nursing Home Claims- Pressure Ulcers, Falls, and Wandering” (Nov. 2010); and co-chaired/presented at the Tulsa County Bar Association Seminar on “Medicine for Lawyers” (2011).

He founded and served as Executive Director of the non-profit organization Oklahoma Center for Consumer & Patient Safety, now OKWatchdog, a 501(c)(3) organization. He was responsible for the identification of policies and practices that impact consumer and patient safety and bring about change in those areas. He was awarded the Consumer Advocate of the Year by the Oklahoma Association for Justice in 2007.  Prior to founding OKWatchdog, he worked at MCI Telecommunications as a manager over international service delivery teams in Chicago, Tulsa, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. 

He currently serves on the advisory board of Iron Gate, board of directors of The Living Green Network, on the advisory board of the Oklahoma Association for Justice, and University of Tulsa College of Law Alumni Board.  He was awarded The University of Tulsa College of Law Distinguished Young Alumni in 2010.  He received Iron Gate’s Volunteer of the Year award and volunteer under 40 award in 2011.  Hugh is the co-founder of Lawyers Against Hunger, Inc. a 501 (c)(3) foundation that raises money to help feed the hungry.  He also serves as the Vice President on the International Board of Directors of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Hugh is a member of the Tulsa County Bar Association, Oklahoma Bar Association, Oklahoma Association for Justice, American Association for Justice, American Bar Association, and Hudson Hall Wheaton Chapter of the American Inns of Court.  He also serves the Tulsa County courts as an adjunct settlement judge.
