Remarriage and Disabled Widow(er)'s Benefits

Disabled Widow’s/Widower’s Benefits can be awarded once the Widow/Widower turns 50 if they meet other requirements.  Generally a claimant for widow(er)’s benefits must be unmarried in order to receive benefits.  However, the remarriage will not bar the receipt of benefits if:

  • the remarriage occurred after the attainment of age 50; AND

  • he/she was disable at the time of the remarriage.
